Aiken is ramping up its traffic enforcement by scheduling DUI checkpoints before and during weekend downtown festivities. Sgt. Jake Mahoney feels that it is the best time to beef up patrols so that motorists remain aware that there will be number of officers to keep a watch on them.

Traffic enforcers have also started checkpoints. Their dedicated Highway Enforcement of Aggressive Traffic team is working to remind drivers to wear their seat belts and plan ahead if they intend to drink alcohol. HEAT officers would be on look out for impaired motorists. They are even asking motorists to keep proof of insurance, registration and driver's license so that they can be readily available through the checkpoints without any delay. There has also been an increase in number of people injured in DUI related crashes. Such crashes can be avoided if residents plan ahead and I would suggest that flyers should be distributed which can warn drivers against driving under influence. Online printing can be used to printing them so that costs can be controlled.
